Welcome! I’m excited to kick off another day to this series of using Stampin Up’s special release Butterfly Brilliance collection with today’s watercolor butterfly card. As of yesterday, this special release set is available for purchase, but you won’t be able to find it in any of the catalogs. Later in this post, I’ll link to where you can find and purchase this amazing bundle, but first, let me introduce you to today’s gorgeous watercolor butterfly card. Let’s get started making this card!

Butterfly Brilliance Bundle
Yesterday I shared information regarding this collection, so I won’t go into too much detail today about what all is included, but here’s another look at the bundle. It includes stamps, dies, and two paper packs. Use the link for more information on the Stampin Up Butterfly Brilliance collection.
Next, let’s take a look at how to create this card.
Watercolor Butterfly Card Instructions
Before we get into the bulk of this project, here are some things you can prepare ahead of time.
Measurements:
- 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Gorgeous Grape Card Base
- 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ Watercolor Paper
Ok, now let’s get to the fun stuff.
Applying Watercolor:
To create the background, you’ll first stamp the butterflies using Jet Black StazOn ink onto the piece of watercolor paper. I used my Stamparatus with a corner magnet trick, and I stamped a few different times to get a dark black color of ink for the butterflies. Next, I spritzed a little water over the top and used a water painter to pick up ink to ‘paint’ onto the butterflies. One of my cards used Gorgeous Grape ink, while the other also included Pacific Point, Mango Melody, and Magenta Madness.
Prepping The Die Cuts:
Use the Brilliant Wings dies to cut the detailed butterflies out of vellum. *Hint- they cut easier if you place vellum over a piece of cardstock and run that through your Cut and Emboss Machine with the dies.
Then use a sponge and Frost White Shimmer Paint to sponge paint across the butterflies. Now they’re shimmering and even more beautiful!
Assembling Watercolor Butterfly Card:
Now, attach the watercolor paper to the card base. Glue the vellum butterflies on top by placing glue only onto the body of the butterfly, not the wings. Add a few gems for decoration, as well as a greeting.
Here’s another look at these two cards.
