If you’re a papercrafter, you know the value of a good paper trimmer. You also probably know the frustration caused by a bad one. Stampin Up has long offered the best paper trimmer I had ever used, but they began experiencing quality issues a year or two ago, and decided to discontinue it. I have good news…our new replacement is here and I think it might be better than the last one AND at a reduced price!! The best paper trimmer has arrived! Let’s take a look!
So this is our new trimmer. It is very similar to our former trimmer, with a few changes. The trimmer has two blades – one for cutting and one for scoring, which is awesome to cut and score card bases or other projects quickly. Take a look at that fantastic grid on the top surface as well. All of those lines and measurements make it easy to line up paper straight and get precise cuts.
The arm on the left side of the trimmer flips out to extend to a whopping 17″. The arm is very sturdy, and doesn’t need a support piece as our last trimmer did. I love how large and sturdy it is, while it also folds down to make storing or traveling with it simple.
Now let’s talk about the clear blade guide. It lifts up as shown below to allow you to slide your paper underneath. Then it lowers and snaps in place automatically.
Let’s talk about how the blade guide snaps into place. It no longer requires a piece to be moved manually to lock it, because it has a small piece that slides into a hole which holds it in place. In the photo below, do you see that tiny raised circle directly over top of the cutting slot? That piece gently locks into…
…the hole you can see on the clear blade guide below. It’s nice that it snaps into and out of place automatically, so all you need to do is raise and lower the clear piece and it automatically locks and unlocks.
**Handy tip** I found that my blade guide was a little more difficult to raise and lower than I would prefer. I was having to pull fairly hard to lift it, and when I’m in cutting mode, I want to raise it, slide paper under, lower it, cut, and raise it up again pretty quickly. It was slowing my progress! The solution? I simply rubbed a piece of wax paper over top of the two spots that fit together, and now it moves much more smoothly and easily!
Let’s talk about blades! Can you believe that some trimmers don’t even have replacement blades available? What in the world?!? Ours can be replaced, and they come in packs of four. In the photo below you can see the small groove where the blades can be removed from the guide.
Here is a pack of replacement blades, as well as the blade I removed from the trimmer.
The blades have a much deeper blade than our former trimmer did. I am able to cut through four sheets of cardstock with just two swipes of the blade on this trimmer! I cut through three sheets with just one pass of the blade!
I mentioned that you can cut and score on this trimmer. In the photo below, I am scoring a full sheet of cardstock to prepare it to cut into two card bases. The scoring blade glides so easily it feels like I’m not doing anything at all!
If you look closely below you can see the score line. It is a nicely defined score line – better than on our previous trimmer I do believe!
With the help of this trimmer, and the ability to cut through several sheets of cardstock at once, I had all of these card bases and card fronts prepared in no time.
It’s the best paper trimmer I have found and it’s just $25!! The trimmer is released tomorrow, November 1, 2019! I hope you love it as much as I do!
