I love to use products in my card making collection in new and different ways, and today we will be looking at die cutting in a new way. Several years ago, a team member shared this idea for making unique card borders, and today I want to share it with you. These cards feature the Stampin Up Storybook Moments product suite, which is really cute. Let’s take a look!

Storybook Moments Suite
This collection of products is a mega suite, which means it includes two separate stamp and die bundles, plus coordinating paper, ribbon, and embellishments. Here is the Storybook Garden Patch bundle…

…and here is Storybook Friends.

These are such fun and whimsical products. I highlighted the paper pack from this set in this post, because it’s a wonderful one that has both designer paper prints and preprinted die cuts, ready to go to make gorgeous projects. Let’s take a look at what I did with it this time!
Die Cutting Technique Video
Watch along here as I share today’s die cutting trick for making unique card borders!

To use today’s technique, you’ll die cut as normal, with one change. Your card and the die will have to hang off the edge of the cutting plates for your die cutting machine so that only about 3/4 of the die cuts through, leaving the left edge attached to the card. Watch along with the video for details.

This first card is simple to create. I used a piece of paper from the Storybook Moments designer paper pack, and attached it to the card base. Then I lined up the rabbit die as described above, and cut it out. Then I used my trimmer to cut off the edge of the card, in line with the edge of the die cut area. I attached a strip of designer paper on the inside of the card, as a background for the rabbit.

For this card, I began by stamping the images all across the card front. I colored them with watercolor pencils, then die cut the edge images as described.

Here you can see the insides of the cards. So cute!

What do you think about this technique? Which card is your favorite? Tell me in the comments!
