I love to use embossed pieces on my card projects, because they add such a neat element of texture and dimension. Typically when most cardmakers decide to emboss, we use a plain piece of cardstock, but sometimes we need to think outside the box! Today I’m sharing a different idea for using your embossing folders, and these cards feature the adorable Stampin Up Ocean Friends bundle, which is retiring very soon. Let’s take a look at these cards.

Stampin Up Ocean Friends
This cute stamp and die set is part of the Friends of the Ocean product suite, which includes a coordinating designer paper pack, gems and and embossing folder. The two-step stamps make it really easy to create these adorable ocean creatures, and the dies make it simple to cut out your stamped images or those on the designer paper prints. Keep in mind these products are on our last chance list, and are only available while supplies last, so if you love them, now is the chance to get them!

Embossed Ocean Friends Card Samples
Let’s take a look at the projects I created. For each of these, I completed my card front first, then embossing it afterwards (usually I would do the opposite).
On this card, I stamped the front then embossed it for the fun textural element.

For this one I layered a die cut piece of designer paper on the left with a crab and lobster from the designer paper on the right, before embossing it.

This card was easy to create with layered paper scraps, which I pieced together before embossing.

Last, but not least, I created all of these elements with the die set, and attached them together before embossing.

Next time you create a card, try doing your layering first and embossing last!
