Hi and thanks for joining me. It’s only a couple more days and the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog will be released! I hope you’re as excited as I am about it because there’s tons of new product to try. One of those products is the Basic Borders die set, and I think they are such a fun tool for card making. Today I’m going to share 6 ways to use these new borders dies as well as a really great tip at the end I know you’ll want to use.
Let’s look first at what comes in this die set.
Basic Borders Dies
Stampin Up’s Basic Borders die set comes with six different dies to create decorated edges. Five of the six borders have dots, stitching or edging detail on both sides. Here’s a look.
Are you already starting to dream about the many ways these can be used? If you’re not quite sure, keep reading because I have quite a few ideas!
6 Ways to Use Borders Dies for Card Making
Let’s talk about the six ways I’ve come up with to use borders dies.
1. Creating Edges
The first way I used the borders dies is to create a cut card edge. This creates more interest on the cards than if they had a straight edge, don’t you think?
What do you think about this new pansy paper?
And here is a gorgeous leaf print that I’m LOVING!
2. Decorative Elements
My second idea for using these dies is to create decorative elements with fun edges. Take a look at these samples. I created a panel for the top card using the rounded die, then used the ‘scraps’ leftover from it on the second card.
3. Layered Scenes
Several different layers of cardstock, cut with these dies, can be used to create a scene. In the sample below, I used a borders die and created clouds on the front of the card.
I’ll mention that I finished all of these cards with pre-made greeting tags I keep in a fishing tackle box that I created with the Many Messages Stamp and Die set. It’s a life-saver when it comes to making cards quickly!
4. Decorative Strips
To create the look below with decorative strips, run pieces of cardstock or designer paper through the Cut & Emboss Machine several times with the die(s) of your choice. This will create adorable designer strips like shown on the card below.
5. Envelopes
These border dies aren’t just perfect for cardmaking, but also for detailing the envelopes to ship your handmade creations! Take a look at these beautiful envelopes.
6. Template for Sponging
Last, but not least, what if we use the die cut pieces as a template for blending instead of using the pieces themselves on the card? To create this effect, I reached for my blending brushes, some ink and a scrap piece of paper. I die cut the cloud border, then blended around it to create this pretty background.
Those are the six ideas I quickly came up with for using borders dies, but before we go I have a tip to share!
Special Tip
Now, I have one more special tip for you. It’s pretty basic but…don’t throw away your scraps. These beauties can be used for other projects, so don’t waste them!
