A few weeks ago I returned from the most amazing trip I have ever taken – the Stampin’ Up! incentive trip to Thailand. I’m still slightly in disbelief that I earned the trip in the first place. I must thank all of you who support my business for making this happen. Thank you! I finally got my pictures from the trip organized, so now I can share them with you!
I took my college buddy Laura with me on the trip. She lives 3 hours from me and we don’t find nearly enough chances to visit, so this was a pretty good chance to catch up! We left a few days early and spent the first three days in a city in the northern part of the country called Chiang Mai. We were with 7 other Stampin’ Up! demonstrators and their guests, so there were 16 of us together those three days. We normally traveled in 2 vans, but as you can see below, the bed of a truck was another travel option.
We were traveling up the mountain in that truck to get to this lovely village.
I think I heard that the children were dressed up for a holiday. Aren’t they precious?
Below, meet the squatty potty. We had heard about them before the trip, but I hadn’t actually done any research on them…mistake! I found out afterwards that you’re supposed to stand on it. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I think I would have had to be even more flexible to make that work.
We visited a number of temples. They were absolutely beautiful and they were everywhere. I think the tour guide said that Chiang Mai had something like 1,000 temples. That’s a lot of temples. They were in the countryside as well. In areas that appeared to be very poor, out of nowhere we would see a huge ornate temple.
Below is the White Temple. It was by far my favorite of the ones we visited.
It was covered in beautiful reflective tiles.
Yours truly at the White Temple.
Below was the view from the bottom of one of the temples. There were vendors set up down the hill to the right. One was selling fried insects. Some of the men in the group peer pressured Laura and I into eating crickets. Let’s just say it was less tasty than I expected.
More vendors and fruit stands.
Here are three of their fruits which are very popular. From left to right, they are called longan, mangosteen, and rambutan. They were very good. Mangosteen was my favorite of the three. Anyone want to guess what the ‘joke name’ was for the rambutan on the right???
This was the night market in Chiang Mai. They had lots of goods at great prices.
This was the hot spring where I got to eat a quail egg, which had been boiled in the spring. It was delicious!
Look at those sexy dancing ladies!
We ate a meal at a restaurant that had this neat traditional dancing show.
Here we are enjoying some delicious food. Most of what they served was family-style, so we could load up on the things we liked, and avoid what we didn’t.
In the three days we spent with the group above (plus eight others who were at a different table), we became awfully fond of them. You know how sometimes you just ‘mesh’ with people? We felt like we just ‘meshed’ with them. They might have felt different about us I guess! During the week we spent at the resort at Phuket, we met up with this group quite a lot.
Stay tuned for more pictures and updates! I’ll share more of our fun from Thailand in a few days!
