Welcome stampers to a tutorial for making stunning cards using a very simple technique – scoring! I shared a tutorial a while back similar to this one, and it was extremely popular, so I changed it up a bit and will share more ideas for scoring techniques today. We’ll be using the oh-so-popular Stampin Up Shepherd’s Care stamps, along with a few other sets. Let’s take a look!
Scoring Techniques
The idea for today’s technique is to prepare a card mat with a scored pattern on it. You can create horizontal lines, vertical lines, diagonals, both horizontal and vertical lines, diagonal lines in multiple directions, or anything you can dream up.
After you’ve created the scored background, use any stamps you choose to stamp on top. This creates a nice effect, because the score lines will not be inked by your stamps.

Here you can see the stamps I used to create these cards. I love this Shepherd’s Care stamp set. The “Praying that you will feel the good shepherd’s care in this season and throughout the coming year” stamp is perfect to use throughout the year for sympathy and thinking of you. I actually cut mine in half, so that one piece just says, “Praying that you will feel the good shepherd’s care in this season.” I think this makes it much more versatile.
Here are the cards I created with this set.
The next set I used is called Light The Year.
I love how this card turned out.
Last but not least, I made a fall card with the Scenic Pumpkin Patch and Autumn Expressions sets.
Here it is.
I would love for you to try this technique today!
