Welcome! Recently I decided it would be good to do some in-depth discussion of some of my most basic stamping supplies, and today I want to focus on ink pad storage. Whether you’re new to crafting or a semi-professional, having the right ink pad storage option is important. Well organized ink pads are easy to see, access and put away quickly, which leaves more time for the fun stuff! In this post I’ll cover important features to look for if you’re choosing an ink pad storage option, and we’ll look at Stampin Up storage in detail. Let’s get started!
What To Look For In Ink Pad Storage Options
Here are a few key features I’ve found are important to consider when looking for the right ink pad storage for your craft collection.
How Many Ink Pads Can Be Stored?
When looking for storage units, consider how many ink pads the unit can handle. Do you have a large collection? Will you be expanding, and can your storage grow with your collection?
How Large Are The Slots?
Ink pads come in a lot of different sizes. Make sure the opening for the ink pad storage is big enough for the ink pads in your collection.
Does It Look Nice?
More than likely you’ll want your ink pads to be easily accessible, which means you’ll want them sitting on your work station. In my opinion, a neat, organized, and nice-looking work space helps me to clear my mind, be more creative and more productive. Consider the appearance of the storage unit and how your ink pads will look sitting in it.
Is The Size And Weight Right For My Needs?
Do you have a small work area? Or are you planning to travel with your units? If so, you’ll want to consider the size and weight of your storage.
Can It Be Cleaned?
Can the storage unit be cleaned? It’s amazing the places that end up inky at times, so this may be a consideration for you. Some units are wood and other materials that may not clean up completely.
Stampin Up Storage Component Options
For a few years, I’ve been using Stampin Up storage for my ink pads, markers, and ink refills. I had held off for a while before transitioning to these units, and I don’t know why I waited! I love the appearance, the fact that I can mix and match the interchangeable, stackable units, and a few other features. First let’s talk about the different types of units available and then we’ll discuss some of the benefits.
Ink Pad Storage & Marker Trays
The ink pad and marker trays are designed to store the ink pad on the left side, and corresponding Stampin Write Marker on the right side. If you’re wondering if your ink pads will fit inside, the storage compartment measures 3/4″ tall x 3 5/8″ wide.
Blends Trays
A second option available is storage trays designed specifically for storing Stampin Up Blends Markers.
Open Storage
The third main option is an open storage unit, which is great for additional stamp pads such as your StazOn and Versamark inks, punches, ribbons, adhesives, and more.
Ink Pad Storage Toppers
The units do not come with toppers, which allows you to stack, mix and match them. It also allows you to choose the topper option that works for you. Next we’ll talk about the two topper options.
Topper Lids
This optional feature is designed to sit on the top of your stack of storage trays. This help to securely cover the units with a flat top.
Topper Storage
I use the Storage Toppers, which you can see below. This topper has a raised edge, making it useful for storing ink refills or other supplies.
Now that you know the options that can be mixed and matched with this ink pad storage, let’s look at some of my favorite benefits of Stampin Up storage.
My Favorite Things About Stampin Up Ink Pad Storage
There are several features I love about Stampin Up’s ink pad storage units. Here are a few of my favorites.
It Looks Beautiful
I love the look of my stamp sets in the trays. I think they look so beautiful, and it’s almost like a show piece showing off my collection.
Mix & Match Options
Mixing and matching is great. Everyone has different needs and being able to customize this storage for the number of ink pads and markers you own is a huge benefit.
It Grows With Your Collection
I love that you can start small if you only have a few ink pads and markers, and then order more trays as your collection grows. When I purchase additional ink pads and markers for my collection, I add the appropriate number of trays to store them in.
Easy To Clean
Sometimes accidents happen, and these units being easy to clean makes all the difference in the world. It’s very easy to remove a few trays, rinse them under water, dry them off, and return them.
Compact
I love the compact nature of Stampin Up’s ink pad storage. They don’t take up a lot of space and we all know we need as much space for other supplies as possible!
Lightweight
These storage bins are so lightweight and easy to move around. I do actually travel with my ink pad storage trays from time to time and being lightweight makes this possible.
Tip For Traveling With & Securing Stampin Up Storage
If you’re looking to hold your storage together permanently or semi-permanently, or travel with your storage trays, I have two tips you might like to try!
Tape
To keep the storage trays together when traveling, grab some clear scotch tape and run it down the side to tape the units together.
Glue Dots
Another option if you don’t want to see the tape, is to use glue dots inside the trays where they fit together.
