Welcome to my blog! Do you have a high quality pair of paper cutting scissors in your crafting collection? A wonderful pair of top notch scissors is one of the most important and fundamental tools you can have in your papercraft collection. The scissors I use everyday are from Stampin Up (like many of my other favorite tools) and today I want to share why I think these are the best high quality scissors. I’ll share tips on what to look for in a great pair of scissors, features of Stampin Up’s Snips and some of the many things I love about them. Let’s get started.
First I’ll share a few things to look for when you’re choosing your next pair of scissors.
What To Look For In High Quality Paper Cutting Scissors
Sharp
Paper crafting scissors should obviously be sharp. This is the only way you are going to get a good cut.
I don’t know about you, but I learned the hard way to threaten the other members of my house not to touch my good scissors!
Precise
Another attribute of really good paper cutting scissors is the precision. Great quality scissors should be precise and able to cut into tight corners without tearing the paper slightly at the end.
Made For Right- or Left-Handed Crafters
Are you a lefty, wishing the world didn’t revolve around righties? I personally am right-handed, but I can imagine the frustration of those of you who are left-handed. Obviously, you want a pair of scissors that is made for your grip on the hand you use to cut.
Comfort
Comfort is important! Good scissors should also feel really nice in your hand when holding them.

My Favorite High Quality Paper Cutting Scissors
As I mentioned in the video above, Stampin Up’s Snips are my favorite high quality cutting scissors. I use them all the time for different tasks. I can easily snip a straight edge or “fussy cut” with them, meaning I’m able to cut closely around intricate shapes and details without using a punch or die. They’re small, easy to use, and comfortable. These scissors arrive brand new very sharp, and they will stay that way if properly cared for. They are ambidextrous, and work well on the right or left hand. I love these scissors!
Next, let’s talk about some of their features.
Features of Stampin Up Snips
Stampin Up’s Snips have several different features that make them top notch. Here’s a list of some of the really great aspects of these high quality cutting scissors.
Protective Cap
Upon receiving these scissors, you’ll notice they come with a protective cap. This covering is great for protecting the sharp blades of the snips, especially if you are traveling with them. Not only does it protect the blades, but it protects your other supplies from getting scratched or poked.
Small
As you can see, these scissors are small. This helps when cutting around small shapes and details. Small scissors are much easier to maneuver than a large, clunky pair of scissors. They also travel well since they are small.
High Quality, Short Blades
Snips are designed to be precise and easy to use. With the short blades of these Snips, you can easily cut around curves and intricate designs.
Comfortable Nonslip Grip
These Snips fit incredibly comfortably in the hand. They have a nonslip grip which also increases the comfort level.
Ambidextrous Cutting Scissors
Stampin Up has made these scissors to fit in both right and left hands. If you’re left-handed, you don’t have to search high and low for special scissors.
Sharp & Precise
These Snips are so sharp and precise. I love how easily I can cut with them. Check out my “fussy cut” below. See the precision in the inner points of the leaf? Many scissors would do a terrible job of cutting into those points, but these guys nailed it. If you would like to watch as I demonstrated cutting this out, you can watch along with the video I created.
This covers much of what I love about these scissors, but so far we haven’t discussed another important material that you likely need to cut, and that is ribbon. Just because scissors do a good job of cutting paper does not mean they do a good job of cutting ribbon. Do these scissors make the cut (get it??) when it comes to ribbon? We’ll talk about that next.
What About Cutting Ribbon?
Another important feature of high quality scissors, especially in crafting, is that they cut ribbon well. These scissors give a PERFECT angle cut when cutting ribbon. The ribbon does not shift or move when cutting and that’s because these scissors are so sharp and precise. You can see this in my video as well.
Paper Cutting Scissors Vs. Ribbon Cutting Scissors
I like to use more than one pair of scissors at my crafting table. Why? I keep one pair of Snips for cutting paper and another pair for ribbon. I want my very sharpest pair for cutting ribbon, and I use an older pair (that still works awesome) for cutting paper.
Tip – Marking Your High Quality Scissors For Ribbon
If you have more than one pair of scissors, here’s a tip to help you remember which pair is for paper and which pair is for ribbon. Tie a small piece of ribbon around the handle of the pair used for ribbon. Leave the other pair as-is. This will help you to quickly identify each pair.
Anna’s Commandment For Usage Of High Quality Paper Cutting Scissors
Here is my One Commandment For Usage Of Paper Cutting Scissors: Thou shalt not let anyone else use them! The key to longevity and lasting sharpness is keeping these scissors all to yourself! Maintain them well and they can last a lifetime, well I think. Mine are going on ten years and are still working great.
