Welcome to Turkey Day Week on my blog! This week I’m sharing projects to help make your Thanksgiving more festive! I’ve already shared both turkey and pumpkin treat boxes, which would be perfect for your Thanksgiving table. Today I’m sharing a turkey craft idea for kids! My family has a tradition of having crafts for kids to do after we eat our big meal, and this would be a great one. It would be a great idea for school, or just keeping your kiddos busy at home too!
Because I’m a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, we of course had to use some of my fun tools to make our turkey. Punches are the best for kids. My five year old daughter loves to use punches, and she got to punch her little heart out for this turkey!
We found an assortment of paper scraps, and our two punches that look like turkey feathers. They’re called the Pretty Label Punch and one of the Gleaming Ornaments Punches and started punching, punching, punching…
Here she is, just as happy as can be. If you’re wondering, yes that is a snowflake on her shirt. It might seem a little premature to be wearing winter clothes, but we got 8″ of snow the day we made this turkey craft!
Once we had our feathers prepared, we got to work on the turkey’s body. We used a bowl and cup from the kitchen, and traced around them onto brown cardstock. Then Little Miss K cut them out for the head and body. We used 1″ and 1/2″ circle punches for the eyes, then she hand cut the beak and ‘wobble.’
Then it was time to assemble it! We used our Snail adhesive roller (perfect for kids) and started attaching the uppermost feathers first. She worked her way down with the feathers, and then attached the head and body on top.
Here’s my little turkey with her turkey!
I love seeing how proud of herself she is when she makes something amazing. It’s kind of how I feel when I make a beautiful card for someone! Want to learn more about stamping, cardmaking, and Stampin’ Up? Start here!
