I heard a lot of hype about the new Stampin Cut And Emboss Machine before I was able to get my hands on one and try it myself. I was hearing that it would give a precise emboss and perfect die cut every time. Well this sounded almost too good to be true, so when I received my machine I put it to the test. I had three tests in mind, and they all involved dies and embossing folders that hadn’t always worked well with my previous machine. Let’s get started, and I’ll tell you what the tests were as well as the results!
Test One – Embossing Folders
This seemed like the simplest test in my mind. I had a couple of embossing folders that hadn’t always worked very well with my old machine. I pulled them out, ran them through, and compared the old emboss with the new.
The sample shown below was using our Scripty embossing folder.
Results = A much-improved, perfect emboss
Test One = Passed
Now, let’s test some dies and the machine’s cutting ability.
Test Two – The Giant Butterfly Die
The butterfly die used for this test is from the Beauty Butterfly set, and it is a big one. It’s the size of a card front, and I used it a while back to make this lovely butterfly wall hanging shown below. I cut the butterflies apart to use them separately, but the die is created so that all five butterflies are attached together.
See how I placed copper foil butterflies under the watercolor ones? When I cut the foil ones in particular, it was a small nightmare. I had to run the die through my machine four times, then pick up the paper and die and move them to a new spot on my plates, turn them the opposite direction, and run them through four more times. Then I used my die brush to get a few of the cut pieces out and had to pick out the rest by hand. Ugh.
This die seemed like a good test for the new Cut and Emboss Machine. I grabbed some copper foil paper (the test had to be fair ya know), and ran it through my machine. I cranked it through the machine, then back, so it got two passes through. Did it create a perfect die cut?
Results = Cut better than 8 passes through with the old machine. Every piece cut perfectly.
Test Two = Passed
Test Three – The Long, Narrow, Detailed Die
When using a long narrow die, you always want to run it through the machine longways. This allows the machine to put pressure on small areas of the die at a time, instead of having to put pressure on (and cut) the entire thing at once, which typically doesn’t work well. Since I’m putting the new machine to the test, I wanted to see if it would cut a long narrow die run through the machine horizontally. I still don’t recommend doing this, and it was a bit hard to crank, but I wanted to see if it would work. Just like in test two, I cranked it through the machine forwards and back, so it got two passes through.
Results = Perfect cut (see photo from test 2)
Test Three = Passed

Hi Anna – thanks for this very informative posting. I’ll be honest, I have the old Cuddlebug, two Big Shot’s and an electric Big Shot and I swore to myself that I absolutely, positively did not NEED to get another machine (unless I just HAD TO HAVE the mini that’s coming out!)! Well, I believe you have sold me on the practicality and necessity of buying this new Emboss machine from SU! Dare I say thank you!
Hugs – Lou
