To Decorate Or Not To Decorate?
You’ll see photos below of organizers that I wrapped in pretty paper, and some that I didn’t. You’ll likely want to cover your long-term organizers to make them look nice, but you don’t need to. This is just something to think about when you see my (ugly) uncovered organizers!
DIY Craft Space Organizers
Let’s take a look at the organizers I created for free!
Cereal Box Organizers
I created two different organizers using cereal boxes. For the first one, shown on the right in the photo below, I simply cut off the top of the box with the idea of sitting it sideways on a shelf for holding large items like my trimmers and stamping platform.
For the second one, shown on the right in the photo above, I cut the box top off at an angle. These look so nice and are perfect for storing paper, or large items like those mentioned in my first example. Doesn’t it look nice covered in my favorite purple paper pack…Perennial Lavendar?!
Cake Mix Box Organizers
Smaller boxes are great for organizing too! I used a cake mix box and a stuffing mix box to organize pre-cut card mats and bases as well as completed cards.
Pringles Cans
Growing up, we used a decorated Pringles can to store buttons. They can be used for all kinds of supplies! I use one to store all of my small paintbrushes. In addition, you can see another example here. I’ve filled the bottom of the can with plastic grocery sacks, to the height that works for my blending brushes. What else can you store in a Pringles can? Markers, basic supplies like scissors, bone folders, water painters, spritzers, embossing supplies, and Take Your Pick tools are just a few ideas.
Soup Cans
These are awesome for your basic supplies, as shown above!
Ribbon Organizer Idea
I had this funny idea to use a tree branch (a small, straight one) to organize ribbon! Just put two nails in your wall, and use a loop of ribbon to hold up the ends of the stick.
I had a dowel rod in my craft space, which was left over from a project, so I used it for my example, but a straight tree branch would work too!
a few more ideas
Now I’ll share a few other free items I use for organization in my craft room.
Here you can see the stack of leftover Stampin Up kit boxes that I’ve decorated for storage. See more about them here.
I have an assortment of things like this metal can that I’ve picked up over the years, and they make great organizers. Look around your house to see what you might have or check out the thrift store!
Here you can see the inside of my top right hand drawer. I’ve used free and leftover items to organize it as well.
What other ideas do you have for inexpensive craft room organization ideas? I would love to hear them!
