Welcome to Day 2 of my 12 Days of DIY Gift Ideas! Sharing gift ideas is a fun change of pace this time of year and I hope you’ll get some ideas you can use this holiday season. Today’s idea is a simple lantern which doubles as an ornament. Let’s take a look at it.
I created these to hold a tealight inside. Here’s what they look like in the dark.
Video Tutorial
For all the details on creating these pretty decorations, watch along here with the video I created.
Next I’ll share the die set I used, and then I’ll explain a little more about how to create these neat decorations.
Delicate Baubles Dies
Here is the Delicate Baubles die set that I used to create these ornaments. It’s perfect for today’s projects because it has a delicate overlay as well as the solid background to attach the overlay onto.
Materials Needed
To create one of these lanterns or ornaments, you’ll need two die cut overlays, two background pieces, and one of the following:
For a square base: 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ cardstock, scored at 1/2″ and 2″, turned 90 degrees and scored at 1″ and 3 1/2″. Then snip the sides as shown.
For a round base: 2″ x 3 1/2″ cardstock, scored at 1/4″ and 1 3/4″, then snipped as shown.
Watch along with the video for full instructions on assembly.
Another Delicate Baubles Project
If you like the die set I used to create these lanterns, you may enjoy the card below as well. I created this a while back using a really fun technique that uses Glass Press ‘N Seal. You can learn about it here.
