During the last year, I have been doing a bi-monthly stamp club for a local group of Amish women. I met one of them at a vendor event, and at that time they were already meeting regularly to socialize and make cards. It’s what they do to see family they may not otherwise see often, because many are married and have moved to different church districts. They get together, craft, and have a carry-in for lunch, along with a LOT of children! The ladies invited me to join them at their regular gatherings, so I began taking a couple of free projects for them, and in return they placed orders with me.. It’s my Amish stamp club! This past month I was asked to bring a baby card with one of our cute animal sets, so that was the inspiration for this sweet hippo baby card!
The Stamp Set
When a ‘baby card with one of our cute animal sets’ was requested, I headed straight to Hippo Happiness. This set is SO adorable. It includes a lamb, horse which can also be a unicorn, hippo, and butterfly, plus adorable, punny greetings. Too cute!
Brick And Mortar Embossing Folder
I wanted to create a simple card with a pretty background. Embossing folders are perfect for that, so I grabbed my selection and started browsing through them. When I found the Brick and Mortar folder, I knew it was perfect. This folder is so pretty, and unique from other brick folders out there. It has some bricks that pop out more than others, for a really neat effect.
Color Scheme
Using a non-gender specific color scheme seemed like the way to go. This hippo baby card could also be made in pink, purple, blue or green, but for my class I wanted to keep it neutral. Yellows and grays are perfect for that, so I used So Saffron cardstock along with Basic Gray and Smoky Slate inks.
Other Uses
Let’s talk about a few other uses for the Hippo Happiness stamp set. Obviously the set is great for kids. Unicorns are perfect for basically every little girl on the planet right now. ‘Hippo birthday’ is a fun birthday greeting for anyone. ‘Fluttering By To Say Hi’ is a nice greeting for all occasion cards.
Sweet little animals make us smile, so what a great stamp set for many uses!
