It’s Day 8 of my 12 Days of Handmade Gift Ideas! It’s a good thing I have these handmade gifts put together, because I haven’t gotten much of my other shopping done! I need to get working on that! Over the last few days I’ve posted ideas for a cute treat jar, a totally different treat jar, a nice Christmas banner, a lovely card set, and a beautiful piece of wall art, among others. Today I have another handmade gift idea for you – a very simple one at that. It is a lantern card.
I guess I’m not sure if you can truly consider this a ‘gift’ but I would consider it an upgrade for someone who deserves more than a card! It’s a card and a lantern in one! I received a lantern card from a customer a few years ago that she made with the Everyday Jars framelits, and I always set it out at Christmas with my decorations.
I made this using our Night in Bethlehem stamp set. I stamped the shepherd and star onto vellum using black ink. Then I stamped the town with Basic Gray ink three times without re-inking to created the faded effect. I used a heat tool to dry the ink, then flipped it over when I attached it to the card so the stamping is on the back side of the vellum. Keep this in mind if you want to recreate this idea – you will be stamping it reverse of how it looks on the card. When you are stamping, the shepherd is on the right side looking left.
I placed a battery-operated tealight inside the card. Here you can see it in the dark. So pretty!
Stop back in because I have four more days of handmade gift ideas, and the ones left include some of my favorites!
